Kanegahama beach lies just a few kilometer’s south of Okuragahama. A smaller beach with a great vibe. Free parking is also available but is more limited. Has toilet and shower facilities for use. Be aware of the rips here.

Okuragahama is selected as one of Japan’s top 100 beaches, with its white sand and green pines stretching across 4km. It is the most well known surf spot in Hyuga. A host to many international and domestic surf competitions. This popular beach comes with great free facilities. A huge carpark to fit over 400 vehicles, toilets and hot water showers.

Along route 222 from Nichinan to Miyakonojo you will come across a road station just passed the Nichinan Dam called Michi No Eki Sakataniko. These kind of road stations are all over Japan and a great place to stop for snacks and local fresh produce. Here you will find the Rice terraces and waterfall.

NISHIMORO FOREST PARK is located in the middle of a cypress forest surrounded by the Kirishima mountain range only about 1 hour drive from Miyazaki city. There is a pump track that has been built in using the natural features and flow of the forest. Great for both skateboarding and biking.

Kaeda River mouth is to the left of Kisakihama beach. It is a very popular Surf spot due to the consistent swell, huge FREE parking area and different breaks. Looking out to the water from the beach, there is the Kaeda river mouth to the right and the Kiyotake river mouth way over to the left. Generally the waves seem to get bigger towards the left and thats where most shortboard surfers head out to.

Only a 15 minute drive away from the chilled out beach town of Aoshima lies Kaeda Valley.
It is a forested area that has many hiking trails to choose from. At the start of the trail just after the main carpark is a great swimming spot where you will find local families setting up picnics and escaping the heat of the summer season.

Aoshima is a small island located in Miyazaki prefecture just south of Miyazaki city. The main attraction is the small Shrine located in the heart of the island with numbers up to 70 million tourists visiting per year. Opposite the island is a long stretch of beach with great year round surfing. Popular on weekends and busy during the Summer season which is also when the Typhoon swell comes.
